Repurposed (Psalm 25:11)

My mom taught me as a young child that just about any ordinary thing could be repurposed into something beautiful or magical. She made Barbie canopy beds out of cigar boxes and wooden clothes pins, play dough out of salt, flour and food coloring, Halloween costumes from fabric scraps and paper bags…I never forgot the lesson of possibility in the humblest circumstances. I guess that is why I married someone with the nickname “the junk man”. Making silk purses has become a necessity. But I love it, and with some bright acrylic paint and a little clever designing, a tired old five dollar turtle that I think was a plant stand gets a spark in its step. (His green, pink and blue upholstery legs are drying). And I’ve found that with the right words, an argument becomes a golden delicious apple pie.
